The Siding Replacement Process

Like many parts of your home, the siding of your home has a limited lifespan which is determined by the type of material used, the way the siding was installed, the climate, and how the siding has been maintained over time. The Go2Guys specialize in the installation of fiber cement siding, generally known as HardiePlank, a material which is well-suited to the climate of the Pacific Northwest.

For homeowners on the Oregon Coast — the wet, windy and salty environment — can be especially harsh on your homes exterior siding envelope. Replacing your homes’ siding will fix any issue in the exterior envelope and protect your home for years to come with a triple layer of moisture protection (2 layers of waterproofing membrane + the siding material). Stainless Steel Hardware is also used to ensure long-lasting protection from corrosion and rust.

Replacing the siding on a home generally involves the following steps:

Step 1 – Remove the existing siding.

Step 2 – Inspect the wall sheathing and make any spot repairs that are necessary.

While your Siding is removed, this is the best time to replace any faulty windows and doors, as you have access to the sheathing and framing around the window and door frames.

Step 3 – Wrap the home in a waterproof membrane.

Homes on the Oregon Coast will have two layers of waterproof membrane installed under the new siding to protect against the costal environment of wind, rain and salty air. Staineless Steel Hardware will also be used to resist rust and corosion.

Step 4 – Install corners, trim doors & windows, frame any exterior fixtures.

Add and seal exterior housings for electrical, plumbing, telecommunications and dryer vent connections to the interior of the home.

Step 5 – Install the HardiePlank fiber cement siding.

Step 6 – Seal the gap between the siding and trim with weather-proof caulking.

Step 7 – Hire a painter to paint the new exterior.

NOTE: The Go 2 Guys will not paint your home and the cost of painting is not covered in the estimate you will receive from us. We can recommend several professional painting companies that can provide a consultation on a suitable color scheme for your home as well as an estimate.
